Introducing Chesed Sustain:
Year-Round Fiscal Stability for the Local Jewish Community
Dear Friends,
The West Orange/Livingston Chesed Committee is proud to launch Chesed Sustain, a crucial new program designed to turn the generosity of our communities into consistent, year-round financial stability for local individuals and families facing financial distress.
We have seen several of our families struggle, through no fault of their own, as the road back to parnassah stretches longer than anyone expected. We have also seen individuals suffer from unexpected medical hardships and other challenges. While our community’s heart opens wide around the chagim, we have lacked a structured bridge to carry this chesed through the quieter months.
As our sages teach us, the “anyium” of one’s own town takes precedence over all other causes.
Chesed Sustain will be structured as follows:
- Every application will be reviewed by lay leadership and volunteer financial professionals.
- Every dollar distributed will go to local individuals and families.
- Every individual and family will receive support with the dignity and sensitivity we all expect and deserve.
We strongly emphasize that this support is a bridge, not a destination. This program is intended to help alleviate financial pressure so recipients can focus on effectively navigating through the crisis they are experiencing at hand.
We invite 100 families to join this partnership:
- $100 a month for 12 months
- Or other monthly commitment
That steady stream of support — targeting $10,000 each month — will quietly pay rent, keep lights on, and ensure groceries are on the table, until the crisis has passed.
